About Me

David Bates is a web developer by trade and hobby. I excel in brand management over the web and do so by creating website designs, engaging in social media, and creating custom applications to fit the needs of any of my customers brands. I have been working with computers and programming ever since I built my first computer in 1990 when I was 8 years old. My first computer was a Tandy I386 DX and ran dual boot with windows and OS2 My first program was in QBasic and I started to build webpages in 1991. My first webpage was hosted on my ISP’s 10MB allotted webspace and contained a vbscript that flew a wizard around the screen. Give me a break I was 9 :) Now I have 14 Servers running at my house for development and host 17 websites with Media Temple. I work as the WebDeveloper at RFMD. I manage www.rfmd.com as well as the design for their intranet and do quite a bit of custom development for them in ASP, .NET, Flash, and Silverlight. I help them manage their online identity through SEO, Marketing, and Social Media. I am a true geek at heart and also build applications for the IPhone, Windows, Mac, and now Windows Phone 7 Series. I like to tinker with my Arduino and am currently learning how to make custom wireless mesh networks for security systems across the 802.15.4 standard. I also contribute code to several open source projects like GIMP, Inkscape, and AS3GLUE.

I am husband to a wonderful and understanding wife. She let’s me geek out and run cables from here to there without ever yelling at me :) I am father to my two boys Daniel and Sam. I pride myself in thinking that I have accomplished much in this life and am only 1/4 way through it. I am currently drafting my goals for my next stage in life and hope that you will stay tuned here on my blog to find out about it.
