Google’s Halloween Image is Slide-A-Riffic

Google Image #1

Today Google’s choose to do a Scooby Doo Ghost-Busting theme for this halloween but I am not here to talk about the theme but rather the mechanics behind it.
I have heard the control they choose to implement be called many things such as slider, carousel, gallery, ad-rotater, and best of all multiple image thingy-majig. However I don’t know exactly what to call it. But the principle is very simple. You line up a set of images in div’s or unordered list set the width of the first div to the size of the picture and then tell it not to overflow that div hiding the rest of the images. You then move the images based on the navigational queues to the furthest left. Kinda like shuffling cards.

I have seen this control used on several hundred websites and even this one. It is a great way to get multiple ideas across in an unobtrusive and pleasing way.
However a few questions arise as there are so many librarys and methods to do this.
What kind of library do you use to accomplish this effect, do you use a library?
Do you prefer the slide or fade transitions?
What should we call this control?

CSUC09 Day 1 (The Drive Down)

Total Trip

Morning all,

Today is the first day of CSUC09 (Cascade Server User’s Conference 2009). I am excited about what I am going to learn today and even more excited about the people I am going to meet. I have already met @KevWorks, @nShontz, @danbowling, @brockbrown, and Beacon Technologies They are all great people and all very knowledgeable. But on to my drive to ATL.

I wanted to take the scenic route down to Atlanta since I never get to take my time and just drive to different places. The map above is the exact route I took and I would recommend it to anybody in the fall of the year. it was wonderful especially Nantahala, Nantahala is the most beautiful stretch of pavement I have ever been on. Waterfalls where on my left, a raging river on the right, and the smell of woodsmoke was in the air. Leaves piled on the road in many different colors just waiting for me to drive over them and kick them in the air. The road was windy and long. As I said before I would recommend it to anyone. Below is a map and images from my trip. Enjoy:
