There has never been any burns and the smell is great! I would suggest that a weak shampoo would give you a poor cleaning and that is why shampoo is used, to clear the hair.. If you have trouble with this product it is with the child being allergic to the formula and therefore other shampoo would cause burning of the scalp area.
