Garden
This weekend I finished getting the weeds out of our garden and breaking/cultivating the ground around the plants we put in. We have several Tomatoes and cucumbers not to mention a pumpkin. I hope we get lots of good veggies for Daniel from this. Next year we hope to build two 5′X12′ raised beds and try our hand at the square foot gardening.

My First Day as a RFMD Employee

Jun 22, 2009   //   by David Bates   //   Uncategorized  //  No Comments

It is funny that I have worked for a company for two years and yet was not an employee :)
For those of you who didn’t know my situation I was a contractor for RFMD and recently was hired to be the Web-Developer for them. My first day was interesting as the first part of it was spent filling out paperwork such as non-disclosures (don’t know if I can disclose that) and benefits. The rest of that day was a mix-match of my cutting the ties from my old job and trying to figure out how to handle the new one. The problem is not in coding or knowing how to work the CMS but rather who to contact for what and where is such and such. I am seriously thinking of printing web pages and making a map beside of my cube on the wall with string and push pins.

I was able to find and resolve a few issues with the site and the intranet so that was fun..

All – In – All I love my new job.

IPhone OS 3.0 First Look

Jun 19, 2009   //   by David Bates   //   All Post, IPhone, Thoughts On  //  No Comments

Well, I took the plunge and downloaded OS 3.0 for my IPhone and I have to say that I am impressed… Sideways email, Search in Email, and push notifications are awesome. I do find however, that a large number of programs simply crash with 3.0 and I have updated all of them from the app store. I was also disappointed to find that voice recognition was a feature of the 3GS and not the software :(

I give it a thumbs up but also hope that the hackers crack it soon so I can get cycorder back :)

New Job

Jun 15, 2009   //   by David Bates   //   Uncategorized  //  No Comments

Today I have accepted an offer to become “The” Web Developer A.K.A: Webmaster for RFMD.com. This has come after much work on my part with SharePoint and the existing Intranet. I am very happy to be joining the RF family and hope that I can provide them with a very good and standards compliant site for a long time to come.

Thanks
